The Gosdeck Bridge Project: A Vision Realized

The Gosdeck Bridge represents more than just a physical connection; it’s a story of vision, persistence, and community spirit.

A Long-Time Vision

The idea for a bridge in this area dates back to 2002, when the Chapel Hill subdivision was developed by Tom Vogel. At the time, the concept of a bridge was already on the table, and funds were even collected from the sale of subdivision lots to help make it a reality.

Over the years, however, momentum stalled and the project faded from view. For a while, it seemed like the bridge might never happen.

Honoring the Past

The land where the bridge now stands was once part of the Gosdeck family farm. The Gosdecks were long-time residents and landowners in Johnson Creek. Their legacy is now honored through this important project, a lasting tribute to their contributions to our community.

A Renewed Commitment

In 2017, the Village undertook a full update of its Comprehensive Plan, as required by Wisconsin law. During this process, we asked residents, business owners, developers, and community leaders to help identify the Village’s most important needs and future priorities.

That’s when the Gosdeck Bridge reemerged as a clear and vital project and was officially added to the plan.

From Planning to Action

In 2020, the Johnson Creek Village Board approved the updated Comprehensive Plan, giving the green light for the bridge project to move forward. Years of planning began to take shape in concrete steps toward construction.

A Bridge with Purpose

The Gosdeck Bridge improves safety and access for the entire community. One of its most important functions is providing a direct route for emergency vehicles to access the school without leaving Village limits. This critical connection helps reduce emergency response times and enhances safety for students, staff, and families.

A Legacy Built to Last

Today, the Gosdeck Bridge stands as a symbol of community-driven progress, built to serve generations to come.

As we mark this milestone, we proudly recognize the Gosdeck family and their enduring ties to Johnson Creek. Their name and legacy are now part of a landmark that connects the past to the future.

Ribbon Cutting & Community Celebration (5/31/2025)

The celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Trek bike giveaways, free hot dogs, popcorn, and refreshments (while supplies lasted). Families enjoyed kids' activities hosted by TDS, Crossroads Kids Connection, and the Johnson Creek Historical Society. Guests also had the opportunity to meet mascots and K9 Moose and explore equipment displays from the Johnson Creek Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments.

The Gosdeck family, who previously owned the land where the bridge now stands, was also in attendance for this meaningful event. Family members gave heartfelt remarks, reflecting on their connection to the land and the significance of the bridge to the community’s future.
